Holding hands....how very important. To me, holding hands is so very important. It's so simple. Just the reaching for another person's hand is comforting, especially when it's there to hold. It can be figuratively or literally. It's a personal connection from one person to another. The first thing you do when you meet a new baby is reach for their tiny hand with a finger and are always amazed at how tightly they clasp to you and your heart melts. A child reaching for a hand...taking that tiny hand in yours...feeling their trust. Grabbing a child's hand in haste to keep them safe conveys to the child your authority and conveys immediate caution. Reaching for a friend's hand whether in need or in love for that person is a wonderful connection. Just knowing that friend's hand will hold your hand unreservedly brings peace to your world. Just peacefully holding your loved one's hand is comforting....doesn't have to be any more that just two souls connecting. Holding hands while making love completes the core of the connection. And finally, what we sometimes forget to do is to reach for an elderly person's hand to show them we respect them and all that they have been and are still....holding that hand possibly for the last time....passes the torch from one generation to the next.
